With Holly Wilmeth & Catherine Farquharson
October 27 - November 4, 2016, 9 days/8 nights, max 8 people
Ever wish you came home from your travels with portraits like you see in magazines? What is it that photographers do in those portraits to make their photos strong and evocative…?
did you ever want to photograph one of the most authentic cultural events in the region — Day of the Dead in some of the indigenous towns around Lake Patzcuaro?
Now is your chance. We are taking reservations for the 2017 tour which follows in the heels of the very successful Travel Portraiture Workshop recently held in San Miguel de Allende in Sept 2016.

This special photography workshop, lead by photographers Holly Wilmeth + Catherine Farquharson, will teach you the art of travel portraiture. Instead of taking quick portraits on the fly, this all-inclusive class will walk you through the decision-making process in portraiture, so you go home with your own stunning portfolio, as well as a handful of techniques to implement on your next trip.
You will then travel to the charming town of Patzcuaro where you will experience one of Mexico's richest cultural events — Día de los Meurtos (Day of the Dead)
Día de los Muertos (Nov 1, and through the night into the next day) is celebrated in spectacular fashion throughout Mexico, but nowhere more so than in the villages around Lago de Pátzcuaro — Tzurumutaro, Ihuatzio, Cucuchucho or Tzintzuntzán, and particularly on the Island of Janitzio. On this night, the locals conduct what is an essentially private meditation, carrying offerings of fruit and flowers to the cemetery and maintaining a vigil over the graves of their ancestors until dawn, chanting by candlelight. Death is considered a continuation of life, and this is the time when the souls of muertitos (deceased loved ones) return to the land of the living.
