Day 3: Tue, 11 Feb–Dubai/Abu Dhabi/Dubai
Trip to Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Abu Dhabi. Late Afternoon/Blue Hour at Burj Khalifa

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
Rising majestically from beautifully manicured gardens and visible from each of the bridges joining Abu Dhabi Island to the mainland, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque represents an impressive welcome to the city. Conceived by the first president of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed, and marking his final resting place, the mosque accommodates 50,000 worshippers and is one of the few in the region open to non-Muslims.

O/N Four Points Sheraton

Day 4: Wed, 12 Feb–Dubai
Sunrise Desert Photo Safari with Oryx and Falcons, Ras al Khor Bird Sanctuary. Lunch in Town. Sunset/Blue Hour at Dubai Canal.

Ras al Khor Bird Sanctuary
In the wetlands, just metres away from the bustling city of Dubai, you’ll find the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary. It’s hard to believe you can find tens of thousands of birds in a spot so close to the city. This wetland reserve also serves as a breeding ground and home each year for crustaceans, mammals and fish, but it is the flamingos that steal the show in winter. Look closer among the mass of pink feathers and it's possible to spot grey herons, great egrets, reef herons, cormorants, black-winged stilts, sandpipers, osprey and so much more.

O/N Four Points Sheraton

Day 5: Thu, 13 Feb–Dubai/Khasab, Oman
Drive to Khasab, Oman. Visit Lookout Fort and Fishing Village. Overnight in Khasab

Khasab, Oman
The capital of the province is small but far from sleepy. Its souq resounds to a babble of different languages, including Kumzari (a compound language of Arabic, Farsi, English, Hindi and Portuguese), and its harbour bursts with activity, much of it involving semi-illicit trade with Iran. The smugglers are distinguished by their souped-up fibreglass boats with outboard motors that line up along the creeks waiting for dusk to make the mad dash 55km across the strait to Iran. They bring money and character into town, so no one seems in a hurry to get rid of them; besides, piracy has been a tradition in these parts for well over 200 years and locals respect a good piece of tradition.

O/N Atana Khasab
Managed by Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN), Atana Khasab is perched on a rock face, this 4-star resort offers panoramic views of the spectacular Musandam shoreline. Located in one of the best spots in the Sultanate, the Atana Khasab reflects the spirit of the country, and features state of the art facilities and services.

Day 6: Fri, 14 Feb–Khasab, Oman/Dubai
Half Day Dhow Tour to Fjords, Telegraph Islands, Dolphins. Lunch, Return to Dubai. Option Sunset/Blue Hour at Sunset Beach (Burj al Arab)

O/N Four Points Sheraton

Day 7: Sat 15 Feb–Dubai/Jordan
Morning Flight Dubai to Amman (3:15 hours). On arrival we will begin our city tour of Amman. Following lunch we will visit the ruined city of Jerash, Jordan's largest and most interesting Roman site. Its imposing ceremonial gates, colonnaded avenues, temples and theatres all speak to the time when this was an important imperial centre. Overnight in Amman.

O/N La Locanda Boutique Hotel
Nestling in Jebel Al Weibdeh, the cultural heart of Amman, La Locanda Boutique Hotel is the perfect place to unwind. Here you’ll find a warm, friendly welcome, cozy music-themed rooms.

Day 8: Sun 16 Feb–Wadi Musa
Drive to Wadi Musa with Stop at Wadi Bin Hammad, Karak Castle for Lunch. Continue to Wadi Musa, visit Little Petra.

O/N Petra Palace Hotel
The Petra Palace is an elegant three star deluxe hotel offering accommodation, in a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. A family run hotel, they take pride in offering traditional Arabic hospitality and are committed, along with their dedicated team, to providing their guests with the utmost personalized service, ensuring a comfortable and memorable stay.

Day 9: Mon, 17 Feb–Petra
Petra, Bedouins—We spend the morning photographing local herders

O/N Petra Palace Hotel

Day 10: Tue, 18 Feb–Petra/Wadi Musa
Petra, Wadi Musa Views, Petra by Night

“Petra By Night”
is an after-dark guided excursion into the ancient city that adds an entirely new dimension to your experience of the place; the candlelit walk, leaving the lights of Wadi Musa behind to enter the pitch-dark valley in silence (talking and mobile phones are banned), is magical. Nothing can match the atmosphere of walking through the Siq at night, with only the light of candles placed every few metres to guide the way. The climax comes as you reach the Treasury plaza, where candles throw flickering shadows onto the great facade as a bedouin musician plays on a pipe. The magic lingers while tea is served and you listen to a story told by a local guide.

O/N Petra Palace Hotel

Day 11: Wed, 19 Feb–Petra/Wadi Rum
Travel to Wadi Rum, Sunset and Stars, Overnight in Desert Camp.

O/N Desert Camp

Day 12: Thu, 20 Feb–Wadi Rum/Dead Sea
Sunrise in Wadi Rum, Travel to Dead Sea with photo stops (4 hours), Stay at Dead Sea

The Dead Sea
Forming what has been called the world’s biggest open-air spa, the amazing Dead Sea (al-Bahr al-Mayit in Arabic) is a major highlight of a visit to the Middle East. Swimming in it is a memorable experience, quite unlike anything else on the planet.

The lake occupies the Great Rift Valley, a geological cleft which can be traced from Turkey all the way into East Africa. Its shoreline – at 400m below sea level – marks the lowest point on Earth, and, as such, is stiflingly hot for much of the year.

O/N Dead Sea Spa Hotel
Dead Sea Spa Hotel is situated on the shores of the Dead Sea, 420 meters below sea level at what is known as the lowest point on Earth. From our convenient location less than an hour from Queen Alia Airport and 45 minutes from Amman, the hotel offers breathtaking views of the world’s deepest salt lake and the surrounding mountains.

Day 13: Fri, 21 Feb–Dead Sea/Amman
Depart from Dead Sea to Amman Airport

Weather

What’s the weather like in Dubai in Jan/Feb?
Dubai enjoys warm weather all year round thanks to its location on the Persian Gulf Coast. You’ll get lots of sun if you’re going there in January, and it’ll be more comfortable than in summer, when temperatures are scorching.

What’s the weather like in Oman in Jan/Feb?
Bordering the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia in the Middle East, Oman has a dry desert climate bringing warm weather all year round. Although January is winter in Oman, temperatures are warm and perfect for an escape in the sun. If you have little ones or prefer cooler weather compared to the sweltering heat of summer, January is a great time to visit Oman. Explore the local sights, relax on the beach and go for a dip in the sea as you enjoy the comfortable weather.

What’s the weather like in Jordan in Jan/Feb?
The winter months in Jordan are very cold: Amman is typically assailed by biting winds, while Petra can experience snowfall and temperatures hovering a few degrees below freezing. Around Aqaba and the Dead Sea the climate is warmer and more pleasant.
